Late 16th Century to Early 17th Century, Rare and Important, Carved Oak Chalice (Italian).

 

A robust carved oak chalice, including four Apostles - James, John, Peter, and Paul, with floral garlands, supporting the bowl and decorative gadrooning on the base, symbolising abundance and vitality; appropriate to its ritual function.

 

CONDITION:

 

For a relic that is over 400-years old, its wear is commensurate with its age, and the fact it has survived this long and remained in its current condition is close to a miracle. Superb patina.

From the Private Collection of a Catholic Priest in Barcelona, Spain.
