C. 1920, Patinated Bronze, Medici Lion on Three Gilt Spheres (German).
Mounted on a bronze base, this patinated, polished, and gilt bronze ornament of a medici lion is finely crafted, with intricate details, and is certainly unique.
Engraved inscription on the reverse:
"Seiner lieben Lore Weihnachten 1920”
(To My Dear Lore, Christmas 1920)
Across post World War 1 Germany, traditional Christmas celebrations with Christmas trees, gifts, and books were firmly established, with presents often being of a practical nature. It's likely that this bronze was purchased by an affluent male, for his wife (or lover) whose name was Hannelore or Eleonore; which were very traditional female names of their time.
