Circa 1890, Armitage Herschell, Wood Carved, Carousel Jumper Horse on a custom Metal Floor Stand (American).
As confirmed by the National Carousel Association based in the United States, this Carousel Jumper Horse is from Circa 1890 (North Tonawanda, New York) and would have been fixed to a Steam Machine prior to overhead jumping mechanisms coming into service in the early 1900's.
This wonderful, hand carved, black beauty horse is beautifully painted with flowers in the folk art style, retaining its original glass eyes and leather tack to the stirrups.
CONDITION:
Wear commensurate with age. At some point over the past 136 years, the horse hair tail has been replaced with a synthetic substitute which can either be left as is, or replaced.
PROVENANCE:
From the Estate of a prominent Poet, Playwright, Philanthropist and Horsewoman in Montana, United States, who passed away in 2016.
