17th Century, Follower of Francesco di Simone Ferrucci (1437 - 1493), Marble Relief, Madonna and Child Among Angels (Italian).
This half-relief in white marble depicts the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, accompanied by two angels above, set against a background of clouds and wings. The scene follows a classical compositional scheme, with a simple pyramidal arrangement that conveys contemplation and tenderness.
Based on its style, it can be attributed to a follower of Francesco di Simone Ferrucci, active as early as the 17th century, when many Florentine sculptors continued to reinterpret Quattrocento models with slight formal adaptations. The gentle treatment of the faces, the frontal arrangement of the figures, and the overall harmony recall this sculptural tradition. The relief was probably intended for devotional use, either in a private oratory or a small chapel. Its restrained format and the serene expressiveness of the Virgin and Child reinforce its contemplative function, within a long continuity of religious marble production in the Tuscan context.
